The Norwegian Commodity Import Programme in Zimbabwe began in 1982. It was introduced as part of the overall Norwegian programme of assistance to Zimbabwe to support strategic supplies and production with a view to decrease the economic dependence on the Republic of South Africa and to stimulate the development of regional complementary industries and trade.
